A Simple Hot Fudge Recipe for Two

My husband and I have a tradition of having ice cream every Wednesday night, after the exciting and sometimes hectic activities at church.  (Actually, the hectic part is getting all the kids to bed after their bedtime!)  It’s a good time to debrief, since we are often involved in separate ministries.  (I hope you have time to sit down with your spouse at least once a day; it’s my favorite time of the day!)

Here’s how to make hot fudge sauce very quickly (5 ingredients in 5 minutes) for you and your husband for your “couch time” after the kids go to bed; you only “dirty” one saucepan along with your two bowls and spoons (assuming you’re having ice cream under your hot fudge sauce).  (Also, this might be too much per person, but seconds are always nice!)

  1. Melt 2 rounded spoonsful of butter (about 2 tablespoons) in a small saucepan
  2. Add 2 rounded spoonsful of cocoa powder (heaping if you like a darker flavor) and mix
  3. Add 4 heaping spoonsful of powdered sugar
  4. Estimate a tablespoon of cream as you add it 4 times (more or less, depending on how thin or thick you want your sauce.)
  5. Stir over medium heat until it simmers (it won’t take long), remove from heat and add a splash of vanilla

Happy couch time!  (Okay, my son just said it doesn’t have to be for couch time!)
